Naturopaths see the symptoms of a disease as the body’s defence mechanism attempting to move the person back to a state of health. A naturopath will work with this process rather than suppress the symptoms, such as fever, diarrhoea, or loss of appetite. Simply put, a nose that is blocked or secreting mucous, is a sign that the body is trying to expell toxins or reacting to an allergy or infection. Addressing what is causing this body reaction rather than using drugs to suppress the mucous is how a naturopath will treat your symptom. Obviously there are times when suppression can/must be utilised if there is danger to the patient or the symptoms warrant relief until the underlying cause is addressed.
A naturopath will design a treatment path that meets your body’s needs. They may at first advise you on how to remove the underlying causes of the stress/agent that is affecting in the body.
The naturopath may then suggest ways to nourish and cleanse the body, by suggesting dietary changes that might involve avoiding certain foods, eating certain foods, taking various vitamin, mineral or food supplements, herbs, homeopathics or drinking fruit and vegetable juices. The naturopath will also be concerned with ridding the body of accumulated toxins, and may suggest that the person undertakes an elimination diet or a detoxification program. The cornerstone of a healthy life is simple, reduce stress, have moderate exercise and eat a healthy diet.
If you follow a healthy eating plan for at least five days a week, you can treat yourself during the weekend.
